Museum Wales are delighted to announce that we will be delivering a wide range of events for Adults Learners Week.

This September Amgueddfa Cymru will be celebrating Adult Learners Week again across all seven of our museums with a diverse programme of opportunities for adult learners.

The events on offer vary from bespoke tours of the Art Galleries at National Museum Cardiff for Welsh Learners, to a tour of our National Slate Museum Collection in Llandygai to a mindfulness music and craft event at the National Wool Museum.

Designed to inspire people to discover a new passion or learn new skills, Amgueddfa Cymru’s Adult Learners Week programme gives people across Wales the opportunity to try out new and different things.

Catrin Rowlands, Head of Learning at Museum Wales said:

“I am thrilled as an organisation to be able to offer a range of activities across all of our sites to such a diverse audience; it is truly inspirational.

I’m also excited that we are going beyond the week and offering events throughout September.”

One of the events taking place during September as part of Adult Learners Week is the monthly Sketching Group at St Fagans Natural Museum of History. This September marks the 2nd anniversary of the group, which started during Adult Learners Week in 2023. Regular members of the group, many of whom have been coming along since the first ever session have said:

  • I've always loved coming to St Fagans Museum but because of the group I'm looking at the buildings, nature & exhibits in a different way. I didn't have the confidence to go outside sketching before but now I am finally developing it and it's great!
  • Just knowing I'm going to be coming every month makes me focus & draw in between sessions. Also, the encouragement & inspiration from everyone else is invaluable.

The Adult Learners Week is supported by the Learning and Work Institute as part of the national Adult Learners Week campaign in Wales.

Kay Smith, Head of Campaigns, Development & Policy at the Learning and Work Institute said:

“Museums are a powerful resource for lifelong learning and connecting with one another beyond the classroom. We’re delighted to see a range of activities being held across each of the sites in Wales to showcase a vibrant programme of events once again this year.

From hands-on crafts and music workshops to special tours and languages, we invite the public to explore Museum Wales’ rich heritage and discover something new."
